Tijdens de ‘Open Monumentendag’ kunnen er tegen een kleine vergoeding met de schepen uit de Historische Hoek tochtjes gemaakt worden.

Den Oever is also located on the Afsluitdijk and is therefore the only village that is located on fresh and salt water. The port is located near the Afsluitdijk on the Wadden Sea side. Den Oever is a real fishing port. A section of the harbor has been set up as a tourist harbour. You can take a Wadden cruise here or go for a day of sport fishing.

There are two lock complexes in the Afsluitdijk: the Lorentz locks on the Frisian side at Kornwerderzand and the Stevinsluizen at Den Oever. The complexes consist of locks, which allow ships to navigate back and forth between the IJsselmeer and Waddenzee, and discharge locks, which discharge excess IJsselmeer water into the Waddenzee at low tide.

Son Jan and his wife Ingrid have continued Studio Blank since 2020 and breathe new life into it. They are showing the permanent collection of works by Hans Blank, who was not only a sculptor, but also a painter. In addition they are showing the works of Marijke Blank-Van Wijk and various other artists outside in the gallery.

You can discover our beautiful municipality by bicycle via the bicycle route. The route takes you about 30 kilometers through beautiful nature and past old stately houses, churches, farms and locks. Along the way you will pass, in addition to the many religious buildings, also numerous historic buildings that, together with the other monuments, make our municipality a picture. A 2 to 2½ hour trip that starts at the Oostkade. We sail through the harbors of Den Oever and past the sluices in the Afsluitdijk. Then we sail along the "Losse Dam" where the spoonbills and cormorants breed and along drier sandbanks where seals rest.

The gauge house in the harbor of Den Oever was used to record the water level. There are two of these houses on Wieringen.
