The four storage sheds on Gesterweg were built in 1937 as a warehouse for Stelling Den Oever and were used as a mobilization complex during the Cold War.

You can discover our beautiful municipality by bicycle via the bicycle route. The route takes you about 30 kilometers through beautiful nature and past old stately houses, churches, farms and locks. Along the way you will pass, in addition to the many religious buildings, also numerous historic buildings that, together with the other monuments, make our municipality a picture. The route can be followed via the audio tour of Izi.travel.

Nowadays the Chapel building has a function as a village house / event location. The space can be rented for various activities such as weddings, receptions, meetings, birthday parties and other gatherings. The Chapel has crockery for 50 guests, so that a (bread) meal / buffet can be enjoyed if necessary.

One a former cheese shop and the other an old village inn where you still can find the old details and atmospere of the former island Wieringen. What makes it so unique? The bright and happy coulors. This unique accomadation; The Ecolodge in Oosterland has been realized around a scouting area right at the Waddensea dike. The house is part of a nature plan, called The Waddenparel. The lodge is suitable for 6 persons and has got 3 bedrooms. Two bedrooms with 2 single beds and the other has got a staple bed. There is a bathroom withe a shower and a seperate toilet. Living area with a nice sitting area and the possibility for another 2 persons to stay on the sleeping couch. For rent for a minimum of 3 nights. There are two lock complexes in the Afsluitdijk: the Lorentz locks on the Frisian side at Kornwerderzand and the Stevinsluizen at Den Oever. The complexes consist of locks, which allow ships to navigate back and forth between the IJsselmeer and Waddenzee, and discharge locks, which discharge excess IJsselmeer water into the Waddenzee at low tide.
