Het Huis van de Wadden

You can discover our beautiful municipality by bicycle via the bicycle route. The route takes you about 30 kilometers through beautiful nature and past old stately houses, churches, farms and locks. Along the way you will pass, in addition to the many religious buildings, also numerous historic buildings that, together with the other monuments, make our municipality a picture. The Wierde is great for you if you like that typical North Holland landscape. Wonderful polder landscape, numerous monumental farms, charming dike houses and narrow hiking and biking trails. It is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. From the harbor of Den Oever are dozens of ports within reach. The Wierde chalet park is your ideal base in the middle of an unprecedented varied vacation area a very modern park, with modern infrastructure.

Palingrokerij Kay - Den Oever is a mobile eel smokehouse with a 5-star status. The eel comes from our own catch, IJsselmeer or even from Ireland. For the gourmets there is also smoked salmon and mackerel. During the season, own eel is caught on the Wadden Sea, you can see the traps when you look out to sea at the Monument! Come and have a look, you are very welcome.

This child-friendly camper location has an unobstructed view over the Zuiderhaven. Here is a beach with swimming water, picnic tables and playground equipment. The harbor, a supermarket and various dining options are within walking distance.

At the beginning of the Afsluitdijk in Den Oever you will find Viscentre ’t Wad. A fish restaurant where you can eat the tastiest fish. From the restaurant you overlook the lively harbor with fishing boats. And if you're lucky, you'll see a seal lying behind the dike on the Oeverse Schor. With former fishermen at the helm, quality is guaranteed every day. The fish restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. Whoever goes out for a day in Den Oever, to the Wadden Sea or to the Afsluitdijk is at the right place at Viscentre 't Wad to eat a nice fish.

At the Historical Corner of the Vissershaven in Den Oever, next to the water level house from 1919, is a workshop and meeting space. This building serves to support the activities around the ships berthed in the Historical Corner.

Den Oever is also located on the Afsluitdijk and is therefore the only village that is located on fresh and salt water. The port is located near the Afsluitdijk on the Wadden Sea side. Den Oever is a real fishing port. A section of the harbor has been set up as a tourist harbour. You can take a Wadden cruise here or go for a day of sport fishing.
