The city centre is currently undergoing a major transformation. We are committed to a compact shopping centre, with a very varied range of shops for our own residents and for the large groups of tourists who visit the city annually. The Helderse Historische Vereniging was founded on July 1, 1988 and is concerned with the preservation, disclosure and distribution of the history of Den Helder.

Our Dutch culture seems to be fading, but not in Den Helder. Since 1975, the Helderse Draaiorgelvrienden have been active to maintain a tradition. The 90-key street organ 'de Harmonica' is managed and operated by the volunteers of 'Stichting Helderse Draaiorgelvrienden'. Almost every Saturday they are with the organ in the city center of Den Helder. On an original wooden, three-wheeled push cart and always turned by hand, as happened a century ago.

The Helders museum is located in the old music dome of the former lyceum on Timorlaan. Today this dome is also known as the Paviljoen van Toen, which borders the Timor Park in Den Helder. In addition to changing exhibitions, the museum also has various artefacts on display, each of which tells a specific story about the rich history of the city of Den Helder. It is often a difficult choice between all the wonderful, artisan ice-cream flavours. But it is not just the ice-cream, also our special, rich-flavoured coffees are made with love and passion. HDK Vocaal is a choir that was founded in 1949 by women who wanted to sing differently than classical or church music. We sing in various languages ??including English, French and Dutch and go in style from a Bergerette from the 18th century to this century.!
