Hiking around Den Helder is beautiful. Everyone who travel North to the top of North Holland will be rewarded with a suprisingly versatile route. Hike on winding paths through dunes and on top of the dyke past the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage. You will see forts, musea, a big red lighthouse and end up in a city centre with any places to rest and have a bite to eat.

The Helderse Historische Vereniging was founded on July 1, 1988 and is concerned with the preservation, disclosure and distribution of the history of Den Helder.

The Medemblikkerloods on Willemsoord is a place where history comes to life. Here, wood is still worked, just as it was in the past. The name refers to the carpenters from Medemblik who practiced their craft here in the 19th century. In their original shed, dating from 1833, wood was dried after years of soaking in the Binnenhaven to soften it enough for working. After serving as a copper warehouse, metalworking shop, and storage for dockworkers, the old shed was demolished in the 1980s. But in 2003, it was rebuilt with the same design and renewed energy. It is now a well-equipped woodworking shop where restoration and maintenance of classic ships—from botters to sloops—are carried out. Thanks to support from the Wadden Fund and the efforts of dozens of volunteers, this shed has become a vibrant place. You'll also find an instruction room and storage facilities, all dedicated to preserving the Museum Harbor. Everything here exudes craftsmanship, a love of maritime heritage, and a focus on sustainability. The warehouse is managed by the Willemsoord Shipyard Foundation. A visit is more than just seeing – it's experiencing how past and future merge in wood, hands, and stories.

Get up early for the best light. Walk with a guide and amateur photographers through the Grafelijkheidsduinen dunes and capture the winter silence, dunes, and sea with your camera.

The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes that Den Helder has, with various jetties along the way. In addition, Den Helder has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes. The farmland route (orange route, 12 km) goes right through the bulb fields.

For many years we have been running our restaurant Golden Bridge with great pleasure. Quality, good food and good service are important to us. The menu consists more than 50 different small dishes. Delicious snacks from Chinese-Cantonese and Japanese cuisine, prepared from poultry, meat, fish and various vegetables. Steamed, grilled or fried.

The Helderse Vallei coordinates the performances in the open-air theater that is located next to the watchtower. Schools, theater or music associations and bands are free to use the theater in consultation under various conditions. These can be requested from the Helderse Vallei.
