De WR60 is het enige nog overgebleven Wieringer Skuutje van een vloot van vele van deze vissersscheepjes. Een Skuutje heeft een veel spitsere kop en kont dan een Aak, zelfs nog scherper dan van een Botter. Door schaalvergroting in de visserij raakten de Skuutjes na 1880 verouderd. Ze werden vervangen door Wieringer Aken. Vermoedelijk is de WR60 (9,80 m lang en 3,30 m breed) omstreeks 1840, ruim 180 jaar geleden, op de werf van Alkema in Makkum voor visserman Jan Tijsen uit Den Oever gebouwd, een tijd waarin er nog geen elektriciteit, petroleum en telefoon bestond en Wieringen nog 84 jaar een eiland zou zijn! Na allerlei omzwervingen kwam het schip in november 2011 in bezit van de Stichting Skuutje WR60 en kwam daarmee terug op Wieringen en kon de grote restauratie beginnen. Daarbij werd onder andere een stuk hout uit het vlak (bodem van het schip) dendrochronologisch onderzocht (wetenschappelijk daterings onderzoek van houten voorwerpen aan de hand van de groeiringen). Het hout bleek afkomstig van een eik die omstreeks 1690 in het Franse Moezelgebied begon te groeien. Na de restauratie van ruim 3 jaar werd op 25 april 2015 het Skuutje tijdens de ‘Weer weeromkomst’ feestelijk onthaald in de Historische Hoek van de Vissershaven van Den Oever. Het woord ‘skuutje’ is het oorspronkelijke woord voor schuitje, een vissersschip. In Friesland werd dit ‘skûtsje’, een vrachtschip. Alle werkzaamheden aan het Skuutje worden door vrijwilligers verricht. De benodigden inkomsten worden verkregen uit de bijdragen van de 10 zogenaamde ‘Inhoutgevers’ (bedrijven die zich gedurende enkele jaren hebben vastgelegd dit unieke scheepje te ondersteunen), verhuurgelden, giften en presentiegelden.

Seal Tour SWRW
A 2,5 hour tour that begins in harbor of Den Oever (Oostkade) and goes along the sluice at the beginning of the Dam, then along to the tidal banks where different species of birds are foraging and resting. After about half an hour we reach the seals. You can admire them in their natural setting.

Foundation Water Recreation Wieringen
A 2 to 2½ hour trip that starts at the Oostkade. We sail through the harbors of Den Oever and past the sluices in the Afsluitdijk. Then we sail along the "Losse Dam" where the spoonbills and cormorants breed and along drier sandbanks where seals rest.

Foundation for Shelter Nautical Heritage Wieringen (ONEW)
At the Historical Corner of the Vissershaven in Den Oever, next to the water level house from 1919, is a workshop and meeting space. This building serves to support the activities around the ships berthed in the Historical Corner.

Corn mill De Hoop was probably built around 1654. Since 2015, the mill has been milling again and runs weekly thanks to the efforts of volunteers.

Wieringen nature reserve
Wieringen is a former island between the Wadden Sea and Zuiderzee and is wonderfully beautiful. Rolling greenery, wooded banks that protect cattle and cyclists from the wind of the sea, historic farms, cozy villages, winding roads. And the sea is always close by, and so are the sea birds. Gulls, fish thieves, spoonbills and geese call Wieringen their home.

The Wadden Experience Point in Den Oever is a viewpoint over the Wadden Sea. You can look out over the 't Schor nature reserve, the dam with the largest spoonbill colony in Europe (Vogelsandt), the former island of Wieringen, the harbor of Den Oever and the Afsluitdijk.
