Monument route: Along salty and sweet
You can discover our beautiful municipality by bicycle via the bicycle route. The route takes you about 30 kilometers through beautiful nature and past old stately houses, churches, farms and locks. Hiking around Den Helder is beautiful. Everyone who travel North to the top of North Holland will be rewarded with a suprisingly versatile route. Hike on winding paths through dunes and on top of the dyke past the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage. You will see forts, musea, a big red lighthouse and end up in a city centre with any places to rest and have a bite to eat.

Walking route of Landscape North Holland. Walking route on the western tip of the former island of Wieringen. Wieringen is a "hidden" Wadden Island full of traces of the last ice age. Due to the closure of the Amsteldiep in 1924, the construction of the Afsluitdijk and the Wieringermeerpolder, Wieringen merged into the Noordkop. But it is still full of hidden stories, old villages, height differences, hollow roads, extensive meadows.

Seal Tour SWRW
A 2,5 hour tour that begins in harbor of Den Oever (Oostkade) and goes along the sluice at the beginning of the Dam, then along to the tidal banks where different species of birds are foraging and resting. After about half an hour we reach the seals. You can admire them in their natural setting.

A visit to the aquarium is an exciting and educational adventure where you learn everything about the underwater life in the Wadden and North Sea. Spectacular is the 15-metre-long walk-through tunnel. The historical museum of the fort is also very interesting. Walk through underground tunnels and discover 200 years of military history about Den Helder and the Napoleonic fortress itself. The new family exhibition explores the lives and work of the soldiers stationed in the fort in 1939 during the mobilization of the Dutch army.
