Old elements have been preserved and combined with modern materials. Think of a steel facade, a three-story atrium, and workspaces with water views. What makes this building particularly appealing is its sustainable character. The mast shed and sailmaker's workshop have been thoroughly renovated for sustainability, with solar panels, smart installations, and a thermal energy storage system. The sailmaker's workshop is even energy-neutral. This is an example of how heritage and sustainability can go hand in hand. A place with character, substance, and an inviting program. De Stichting Helderse Botters bestaat geheel uit vrijwilligers en probeert de HD2 en RD28, twee unieke botters als cultureel erfgoed, d.m.v. charter en sponsoring door particulieren en bedrijven, voor het nageslacht in de vaart te houden.

The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes that Den Helder has, with various jetties along the way. In addition, Den Helder has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes. The village route (purple route, 15 km), the southernmost route, runs along the outer edges of Julianadorp.
