The Helders museum is located in the old music dome of the former lyceum on Timorlaan. Today this dome is also known as the Paviljoen van Toen, which borders the Timor Park in Den Helder. In addition to changing exhibitions, the museum also has various artefacts on display, each of which tells a specific story about the rich history of the city of Den Helder. These dunes are formed from the remains of the old Wadden island Huisduinen. South of this are the Donkere Duinen. These originated from the small Wadden island of Ooghduinen. The gap between the two islands closed in the 16th century. The Harmplas dune lake is now located here.
