In the direct surroundings there are a few nature areas like ''de Donkere Duinen'' and ''Mariëndal''. Duinoord has a nice, wide beach, and is often visited during the summer by both tourists and inhabitants of Den Helder. This beach has the Blue Flag and is being guarded.
