The building may date from the 15th century, but was later modified with a three-sided closure and a northern extension. After considerable damage in the village fire of 15 September 1788, the church was restored in 1791-1792. The tower consists of a simple 19th-century tower with an eight-sided spire. Village house De Nieuwe Horn and the Laurenskerk are located in the center of Kolhorn, a small nucleus with approximately 840 inhabitants within the municipality of Hollands Kroon in the province of North Holland. The monumental and iconic Laurenskerk, which is no longer in use for religious purposes, is a unique location with its physical link to De Nieuwe Horn village hall, which is used by and for residents of Kolhorn and visitors. We try to promote positive buzz in the village by organizing events, but also by designing the outdoor space around church and village hall, through BiK (books in Kolhorn, a mini-library that can be found in the hall of both church as village hall). Exhibitions, concerts or other events take place here and the village hall and church are also used by a large number of organisations. We offer space to come together to celebrate beautiful moments (we can get married in church) and to reflect on life (we have an auditorium and opportunities for condolence).

The Municipal Marina in Kolhorn is located on the West Frisian Omringdijk. At the port there is the possibility of refueling. In the village there are restaurants where you can eat. Since 2016, the port has modern facilities in a new port office. There is also wifi in the harbor. In summer, the annual night markets in the village are organized.
