The nature that surrounds Den Helder is fairly unknown, but certainly worth the effort. For example the "Huisduinerpolder". Located behind the hospital of Den Helder starts a path to the marshy polder, next to Fort Erfprins. The brackish influence of the North Sea water is noticeable in the vegetation due to the presence of salt-loving plants. In spring and autumn there are large numbers of curlews, sandpipers and oystercatchers at high tide. Brent geese, snow buntings and moorhens look for food in the winter. The polder is a breeding ground for reed singers and redshanks.

The detached villa 'Huize Doornstaete' was built in an eclectic architectural style around the year 1880.

Our icecream is fresh and made in our open ice cream kitchen. We make our ice cream with fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, milk, cream and sugar. All our sorbet ice cream is lactose-free and almost all of our ice cream is gluten-free. Besides ice cream, we also have delicious coffee.

When the spring sun shows itself, the ice fun starts. People of all ages eagerly gather round the display of ice-cream parlour Kaap Hoorn at Willemsoord. It is often a difficult choice between all the wonderful, artisan ice-cream flavours. But it is not just the ice-cream, also our special, rich-flavoured coffees are made with love and passion. Why not have some ice-cream to go with your coffee, instead of a cookie?

We bring the summer itch, and give the ultimate holiday feeling. We have 36 different ice-cream flavours, including Smurf, Cookies, Stroopwafel, Bubblegum, Kinder Bueno and even Liquorice! All our flavours are fit for people with lactose or gluten allergies. We also offer an assortment of fresh pie to go along with a delicious cup of coffee.

A cozy and contemporary restaurant with a modern yet atmospheric and soothing warm décor. 'iegewies' has a cozy bar and always several beers and wines from the tap. In the very nice lounge area you can have a drink and you can also order drinks after dinner. With almost 70 seats in the restaurant and 90 on the terrace, 'iegewies' is also suitable for parties and events.

'De Wieringer' is open every day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can choose your dairy products yourself and pay (cash). There is also a picnic area here. Here one buys among other things: ice cream, yogurt, fresh milk, cottage cheese, jam, fruit yogurt and syrup. The 'ice cow' with ice cream (scoop) is outside during the weekend (unless the ice cow is on a market elsewhere, this is always indicated on the Wieringer's Facebook page).

Since 1963, IJsie Prima is known as a great ice cream parlor where fresh ice is made daily in a traditional way. And they still do!
