OV Fiets Den Helder

The Royal Navy yacht club was founded on April 29th, 1899 by officers of the Royal Navy. It is, and always has been, a club for Royal Navy personnel. The club is open to officers, officers-in-training and former officers of the Royal Navy and the Royal Navy Reserve. In november of 1901, the title ''Royal'' was added to the club by Queen Emma. In the first few years of the club, about 40% of the navy officers (around 350) were a part of the club.

The goal of this organisation is to further develop art. We want to keep the interest for art lively. On our site there is more information about the artist, their work and the diffrent techniques being used.

The Forest Hotel is an excellent hotel opportunity in the centre of Den Helder. Smartlappenkoor Ordinaria is a four-part choir that has been around for more than 20 years. We sing smartlaps, life songs and Dutch-language repertoire. Every year we participate in Music Day, Summer Dreams and other events.

Next to fufilling the role of Hofchapel are we also active around the Sinterklaas time active. We are also active the whole year round for markets, weddings and parties, soccer games en are we giving serenades.

Hotel Cape Horn is situated at the Zuidstraat in Den Helder, near the city center and the old Royal Navy shipyard Willemsoord. You can walk right into the city center where you find loads of cozy restaurants. Or cross the little bridge to visit one of the museums at Willemsoord. Our hotel has free Wi-Fi. The rooms all have a television. We have a shared lounge near the accomodations.

The department of Den Helder was founded in 1822 and is therefore the oldest existing association of the naval city. For a century and a half it had a pioneering role in education and development. The utility kindergartens, household education, the utility savings bank, these were all initiatives from this local department.
