Since 1996, the museum lightship Texel No. 10 has been an absolute eye-catcher in Museum Harbor Willemsoord on the Oude Rijkswerf Willemsoord in Den Helder. What is special is that the now beautifully restored ship is moored a stone's throw from the slipway where she was launched in 1951. After this, the lightship would be a reliable beacon in the sea off the Dutch coast for forty years. It now forms a shining centerpiece of a special museum ships collection. The Hiking network in Noord-Holland offers hikers opportunities for a healthy, sporty, and interesting hike in the beautiful Noord-Holland. The different hikes take you across beautiful landscapes, linear villages and nature areas, across dirtroads, centuries-old dikes and along historical locations. You can hike directly from one of the starting points, where you can choose from several marked routes. You can pick the length and environment of your hike. This way, the hiking network offers you plenty of ease, and loads of hiking pleasure!

Fort Dirksz Admiraal was built in 1812-1813 as the middle fort in the Stelling van Den Helder. The fort is named after the former mayor of Monnickendam, Cornelis Dirkszoon, who was admiral of the North Holland fleet during the Eighty Years' War. In an advanced position, in what was then still a swamp area, both Fort Oostoever and Fort Erfprins could be protected from this fort. During the Second World War, the German occupier made use of the fort by building an anti-aircraft battery on it. This is still completely present. De Stichting Helderse Botters bestaat geheel uit vrijwilligers en probeert de HD2 en RD28, twee unieke botters als cultureel erfgoed, d.m.v. charter en sponsoring door particulieren en bedrijven, voor het nageslacht in de vaart te houden.

The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes from Den Helder with various footbridges along the way. In addition, Den Helder has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes. The city and defense route (red route, 6 km there and 6 km back) passes Fort Dirks Admiraal, Fort Erfprins, Fort Westoever, the line and Willemsoord.
