Het kerkgebouw is in 1938 ontworpen door architect E.J. Rothuizen. Hij maakte ook het ontwerp voor de Protestantse kerk in Slootdorp. Bij de inrichting van de Wieringermeerpolder werden belangrijke gebouwen in Wieringerwerf op hoekpunten of een andere strategische plek gebouwd. De Samenstroom is gesitueerd tussen de Terpstraat en de Helfrichlaan. Aan het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de IJsselmeerdijk opgeblazen door de Duitse bezetter. Het water bracht veel schade aan de bebouwing en gewassen in de jonge polder. In Wieringerwerf bleek 93% van de bebouwing volledig te zijn verwoest. Ook aan het kerkgebouw was de schade enorm. In 1947 is de kerk herbouwd. Een uitbreiding van de kerk met een vergaderruimte/toneelzaal in de stijl van het hoofdgebouw volgde in 1954. In 2002 is de Gereformeerde kerk gefuseerd met de Nederlands Hervormde gemeente tot Protestantse gemeente in het kader van een Samen Op Weg traject. Vandaar ook de naam ‘De Samenstroom’. In 2006 is de kerk opnieuw ingericht waarbij het liturgisch centrum is verplaatst en de stoelen een kwartslag gedraaid. Tevens is de hele vloer vernieuwd en voorzien van vloerverwarming. De kerktoren werd in 2014 getroffen door bliksem, waarbij schade ontstond aan het dak en koperwerk. De kerk bezit twee pijporgels. In 1987 is door orgelbouwer De Jongh het grote orgel gebouwd. In 2020 is een Engels orgel overgenomen uit een kerk in Schellinkhout. Het instrument is gebouwd rond 1875 door Ivimey & Cooper voor een onbekende kerk in Southampton. Dit orgel is eigendom van ‘Stichting Muziekvrienden Samenstroom’.
