The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes that Den Helder has, with various jetties along the way. In addition, Den Helder has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes. The nature route (green route, 4 km there and 4 km back) goes along the inner dune edge of the municipality of Den Helder. The Nature Route is located near the Helderse duinen, a dune and forest area of over 800 hectares, which consists of a dune landscape with low dune tops, a dune lake, dune valleys and forests. Together with the Noordduinen, it forms an Eldorado for special plants and birds. While sailing you will cross the Mariëndal recreation area and an area for bulb growing where you can enjoy the colors and scents of dozens of bulb varieties at the right time. You will pass the Helderse Vallei, the Climbing Valley, Pannenkoekenvallei and Camping ‘t Noorder Sandt.

Street organ the Harmonica
Our Dutch culture seems to be fading, but not in Den Helder. Since 1975, the Helderse Draaiorgelvrienden have been active to maintain a tradition. The 90-key street organ 'de Harmonica' is managed and operated by the volunteers of 'Stichting Helderse Draaiorgelvrienden'. Almost every Saturday they are with the organ in the city center of Den Helder. On an original wooden, three-wheeled push cart and always turned by hand, as happened a century ago.
