Westfriese Folklore

Westfriese Folklore

Starting on Thursday 3 July, ten consecutive Thursdays in Schagen will be dedicated to West Frisian Folklore.

Every Thursday at 10.45 am, the colorful procession of Schagen residents and guests dressed in original West Frisian costumes, walking or sitting on or in farm carts, sjeezen and landaus, which are pulled by beautiful horses, departs through the center of Schagen.

Every West Frisian Thursday is characterized by a specific daily program:

  • July 3: Day of the old crafts
  • July 10: Dance Day
  • July 17: Animal Day
  • July 24: Traditional Costume Day
  • July 31: Music Day
  • August 7: Guest day in the ‘open air’
  • August 14: Children’s Day
  • August 21: Ring-steking around the church
  • August 28: Collectors Market
  • September 4: Festive closing day
