Westfriese Folklore

Westfriese Folklore

Starting Thursday, July 2, Schagen will be dedicated to West Frisian Folklore for ten consecutive Thursdays.

Every Thursday at 10:45 a.m., the colorful procession of Schagen residents and guests dressed in original West Frisian traditional costume departs through the center of Schagen, walking or seated on or in farm wagons, chaises, and landaus drawn by magnificent horses.

Every West Frisian Thursday is characterized by a specific daily program:

  1. July 2: Day of Traditional Crafts
  2. July 9: Day of Dance
  3. July 16: Animal Day
  4. July 23: Traditional Costume Day
  5. July 30: Day of Music
  6. August 6: Guest day in the ‘open air’
  7. August 13: Children’s Day
  8. August 20: Ring jousting around the church
  9. August 27: Collectors’ Market
  10. September 3: Festive closing day
