The Museumhaven Willemsoord Foundation (SMW) aims to develop the Museumhaven Willemsoord into a fully-fledged, authentic complex where historic ships are moored, (if necessary) restored to their original state, where maritime crafts are carried out, and where the whole is operated as a tourist attraction, to showcase the maritime identity of Willemsoord and Den Helder. The maritime-historical character of Willemsoord is largely provided by the “decoration” with about 30 to 50 nautical monuments, and the maritime-artisan activity that is necessary to get and keep the ships in good condition. To achieve that goal, not only attractive financial conditions are needed, but also suitable facilities to get and keep the ships in good condition, such as workshops, and dock and slipway facilities. The SMW, supported for many executive, operational activities by the Nautical Monuments Foundation (SNM), makes every effort to make the facilities and conditions under which nautical monuments can be located in Willemsoord so attractive that Willemsoord is an attractive option for the owners of This type of ship is a popular mooring spot.
