The Museumhaven Willemsoord Foundation (SMW) aims to develop the Museumhaven Willemsoord into a fully-fledged, authentic complex where historic ships are moored, (if necessary) restored to their original state, where maritime crafts are carried out, and where the whole is operated as a tourist attraction, to showcase the maritime identity of Willemsoord and Den Helder. The maritime-historical character of Willemsoord is largely provided by the “decoration” with about 30 to 50 nautical monuments, and the maritime-artisan activity that is necessary to get and keep the ships in good condition. To achieve that goal, not only attractive financial conditions are needed, but also suitable facilities to get and keep the ships in good condition, such as workshops, and dock and slipway facilities.
