National Lifeboat Museum Dorus Rijkers
The Dutch lifeboat service through the ages and the safety aspects at sea are at the centre of attention in this museum. Original lifeboats, ship models, scale models, paintings, pictures, distinctions, life-saving equipment and movies are being displayed. All texts and computersimulations are in the English language and most movies as well. Daily, between 13.00 and 16.00 hrs, a 15 minute tour through the inner harbour can be made on board a historic lifeboat. Reservations for the boattrip not required.

Oude Rijkswerf Willemsoord
The unique Willemsoord complex, formerly the shipyard and maintenance site for the Royal Navy, is now a beautiful monumental part of Den Helder, which gradually evolves into an open city. The restoration of Willemsoord has seized a large number of years with the result of a wonderful cultural heritage. Willemsoord houses a variety of entrepreneurs and nautical and cultural institutions. A visit to Willemsoord guarantees a nice day out!

Fort Harssens
Within the Stelling Den Helder, it was decided that an armored coastal fort had to be built on the sandbank Harssens. It wouldn't be the only armored coastal fort, but it would be a unique one in shape and execution. To man the fort, a new regiment was established. Fort Harssens is unique because of the biggest canons that have ever been put on top of a fort. In two domes, there were two canons each with a diameter of 30,5 cm (12'', 1'). Directed at navigation channel Molengat, they could propel objects up to 7 kilometers away. De domes were moved by hydraulics en could turn 360 degrees.

Defence line of Den Helder
The 'Stelling of Den Helder' is one of the oldest stll presence military defensive lines in the Netherlands. The 'stelling' is build in commisioned by Napoleon as a protection of navy base Willemsoord. The city of Den Helder got his shape because of the 'Stelling' which is still seeable in the landscape. The 'Stelling of Den Helder' is very important for the authenticity and identity of Den Helder.

Atlantikwall Centre
For years, the Administration Building or 'Old Casino' in Huisduinen was a controversial reminder of the war history of the city of Den Helder. But now that this period is further behind us, new impulses are coming to keep the memory of this meaningful period in our history alive. In the elongated exhibition space the visitor can get acquainted with the chronological course of the Second World War, the geography and form of the Atlantic Wall and stories and events from the war history.
