Fort Dirksz Admiraal was built in 1812-1813 as the middle fort in the Stelling van Den Helder. The fort is named after the former mayor of Monnickendam, Cornelis Dirkszoon, who was admiral of the North Holland fleet during the Eighty Years' War. In an advanced position, in what was then still a swamp area, both Fort Oostoever and Fort Erfprins could be protected from this fort. During the Second World War, the German occupier made use of the fort by building an anti-aircraft battery on it. This is still completely present. Children's Gospel Choir JOY is a children's choir that has been established in Den Helder for 20 years. The choir consists of enthusiastic children between the ages of 6 and 14.

Music association Winnubst, founded in 1900, offers musical relaxation to around 100 enthusiastic singers. With a good training of their own through the Klein Harmonieorkest, Winnubst ensures that the Harmonie orchestra can continue to operate at the highest level. In addition, Winnubst has the Bigband Frankie Goes To ... and the multi-bladed chapel the Knorhanen, now a household name in Den Helder and the like.
