The department of Den Helder was founded in 1822 and is therefore the oldest existing association of the naval city. For a century and a half it had a pioneering role in education and development. General mixed choir Mescalanza from Julianadorp will be 25 years old in 2019! The first rehearsal was on September 22, 1994. At the moment, the Mescalanza choir consists of about fifty members. The conductor is Durk Geertsma with Dick Laan on the piano.

The Stichting Museumhaven Willemsoord (SMW) is supported for many executive, operational activities by the Stichting Nautische Monumenten (SNM). Willemsoord is a popular berth for owners of these types of ships.
