Southeast of Den Helder lies the beautiful nature reserve World Heritage Waddenzee. The Balgzand is the the western part of the Waddenzee. Behind the beautiful nature area and recreational forest de Donkere Duinen, you find beach Donkere Duinen, also known by the people as entrance ''Hengstepad''. The beach Donkere Duinen is only accessible on foot or on bike. The advantage you have is that you can enjoy a beautiful and mostly quiet family beach. And ofcourse when you go to this beach, you have a great walk or bicycle tour ahead of you.

The Helders museum is located in the old music dome of the former lyceum on Timorlaan. Today this dome is also known as the Paviljoen van Toen, which borders the Timor Park in Den Helder. In addition to changing exhibitions, the museum also has various artefacts on display, each of which tells a specific story about the rich history of the city of Den Helder.
