The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes in Den Helder, with various jetties along the way. Den Helder also has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes.
The farmland route (orange route, 12 km) goes straight through the bulb fields. This route passes the cozy family campsite ‘t Noorder Sandt, the Helderse Vallei, the Klimvallei and the Pannenkoekenvallei. The Boerenland Route runs straight through the polder landscape of the Noordkop, now the largest contiguous flower bulb growing area in the world! In the right period you can enjoy the colors and scents of the many bulb fields. You can see the farmers at work and enjoy the birds that live in and around the fields. Fun fact!
The Boerenland Route connects the waterways of Julianadorp with Den Helder. In addition to this ‘urban water’, there are two more water flows that always remain separate from each other: the natural dune water and the water used in the agricultural sector. The water from the fields is drained via underground waterways (‘subleaders’) under the canoe route. The clean dune water is thus preserved in the various nature reserves!
