Vervanging wiekenkruis molen De Hoop

On Monday, June 1, De Hoop windmill in Den Oever will receive new sails: the steel beams of the wind cross. The current sails are now 49 years old and show rust holes. So, it is time for a substantial and special intervention.

During the hoisting operation, the old beams are lifted out of the axle head. Afterwards, the new sails are immediately installed. An impressive spectacle, right in the middle of the village. The public can watch from the public road or sidewalk, outside the cordoned-off work area. The mill yard is not accessible during these works.

After hoisting, the millwrights will spend a few more weeks further constructing and finishing the sail cross. For enthusiasts of windmills, engineering, and local heritage, this is a wonderful moment to see how such a monument remains in motion.
