The History of Sound is a 2025 British-American historical drama film directed by Oliver Hermanus, starring Paul Mescal, Josh O’Connor, and Chris Cooper. Set during World War I, the film follows two young men traveling across America to record folk songs and stories from various communities. During their shared journey, a special and intense bond develops between them. Against the backdrop of a world marked by war and loss, they discover the power of music and stories and search for beauty and meaning in a rapidly changing world.
