For many residents of Nieuwediep, Selamat Makan has become a beloved tradition at the end of summer. From 12:00 to 17:00, there is plenty to taste, experience, and enjoy in the garden of Hortus Overzee.
Taste and enjoy
Visitors can enjoy an Indonesian meal featuring satay and lontong. There are also traditional delicacies such as pastei, loempia, lemper, and risolles. The aromas of freshly prepared dishes and the green surroundings of Hortus Overzee make for a pleasant afternoon for young and old.
For something sweet, you can go to Louisette. This year, she is at Selamat Makan for the first time with her ice cream cart Gloeiend Koud and serves freshly churned ice cream.
Dance and live music
Culture is also given ample space. Dance group Puteri Pelangi provides colorful performances and introduces visitors to traditions from the Indonesian archipelago.
The band After Midlife, led by Rob Picauly, provides the live music. With their performance, the musicians bring extra atmosphere to the Wereldplein.
More than delicious food
Between performances, you can take a walk through the unique gardens of Hortus Overzee. As is tradition, there is also a lottery with attractive prizes.
