Are you going to join a tour of this great fort? The unknown to many “Fort op de Harssens”, built as an armored fort by the Dutch between 1880 and 1886, then and now part of the Stelling Den Helder.
What will you experience?
An authentic fort (without interior, furniture etc.) where time seems to have stood still. The atmosphere of 1900 is still palpable. Who were the users of the Fort? The first years were the Dutch, during the Second World War the German occupier and then the Royal Navy.
What should you take into account?
It is a bit dark in some places (the guides have flashlights) there are thresholds. Corridors are sometimes narrow and everything is underground. The fort is not accessible for people in a wheelchair. Children only under adult supervision. Fort Harssens is located on defense terrain. You only get access if you have registered in advance with first name, last name and date of birth.
How do you get there?
The fort is located under the harbor office and the Royal Navy Yacht Club on the Bevesierweg in Den Helder. More information about this will be provided when booking. It is important that you reserve a spot at least five days before the planned tour. A maximum of 25 people can participate per tour.
