Fort Dirksz Admiraal forms the heart of the historic Defence Line of Den Helder.
Old fort with a rich history
Built in 1812-1813 and named after Admiral Cornelis Dirkszoon, this fort could protect both Fort Oostoever and Fort Erfprins. At the time, it was located in the middle of a marshy area.
Exciting traces of the war
During World War II, the German occupiers established an anti-aircraft battery there. This battery is still fully intact. The fort was also actively used by the army during the Cold War.
Discover it yourself
Part of the site is managed by the Stelling Den Helder Foundation. You can view the German bunkers and visit the fort on a guided tour. A unique opportunity to experience military heritage up close.
