Join a guide from Landschap Noord-Holland on Sunday, September 6, to wander through Botgat, the beautiful nature reserve between Callantsoog and Den Helder.
How is nature recovering after the redesign of this site?
Nature is taking over
Botgat is located in the Noordduinen near Groote Keeten. Formerly a Defense shooting range with small buildings and a lot of concrete. Landschap Noord-Holland has removed all of that, and now nature is taking its course here.
Walk along and discover all that has changed. Sand drifts, a profusion of flowers, butterflies, an abundance of birdlife, and a magnificent panorama.
The wheatear has also discovered this area. Consequently, at least half of all wheatears in the Noordduinen breed here. They breed in rabbit burrows and prefer low dune grass.
You walk through this varied area and let yourself be surprised by what crosses your path. This includes plants such as wintergreens and orchids, and perhaps a hare will dart away from your feet.
Put on good walking shoes and (rain) clothing. You will be hiking through the entire area! If you have binoculars, bring them along.
Especially for hiking enthusiasts aged 12 and up.
