The rich history of duck decoy ‘t Zand
After the reclamation of the Zijpe, various duck decoys were strategically constructed along the Zijperzeedijk. With the help of tame ducks, foraging ducks on the mudflats were skillfully lured into the decoys at night. Duck Decoy ‘t Zand is a beautifully preserved example of this and has been carefully restored to its original state by Landschap Noord-Holland.
Ringing and releasing ducks
Today, the duck decoy has a new function. Ducks are no longer caught here for consumption, but are ringed and subsequently released. Expert guides take visitors on a fascinating walk and a demonstration. There is ample opportunity to look around on the decoy keeper’s yard.
