Ga mee op zoek naar vleermuizen in Wildrijk

Wildrijk is a special piece of forest with crooked trees and a quiet dune ridge. An exciting place to walk, especially in the twilight!

On Saturday evening, October 5, you can go there with a nature guide from Landschap Noord-Holland to look for different types of bats.

Experienced guide with a bat detector

Bats are amazing animals. They are the only mammals that fly. And when the other animals go to sleep, they come out to hunt.

You see them darting through the air at lightning speed along the treetops in search of insects. Various species occur in Wildrijk.

Where are bats and how can you find them in a darkening forest?

Bats appear to fly without making a sound, but with the guide’s bat detector you can still hear them.

Each species makes its own sound and this way you will find out which species are flying around here. With a bit of luck you will also get to see them in the light of the guide’s lamp.

A great nature experience for children.

Wildrijk is a small but special forest. It is a remnant of the once wooded estates in the Zijperpolder, owned by wealthy merchants from Amsterdam.

Much of the forest has disappeared, but the Wildrijk is one of the last remaining forests. The bat is an important resident of this area.

What species will you see on Saturday evening, October 5th ? Please make a reservation; unfortunately it is not possible to join on site.
