Excursie: kijkje achter de schermen bij Eendenkooi ’t Zand

In the heart of the polder, amidst the bulb fields and near Schagen’s industrial area, lies a surprisingly old forest. For over 400 years, this has been the site of the duck decoy ‘t Zand. On Saturday, March 28th, you’ll get a unique glimpse behind the scenes during an excursion organized by Landschap Noord-Holland.

Accompanied by a guide, you’ll walk a short route through the woods towards the decoy pond. You’ll pass reed screens and arrive at a viewing screen where you can peacefully observe the ducks’ natural behavior. Barn ducks swim in the pond, attracting other ducks. Sometimes, you’ll find some very special species among them.

Four trap pipes surround the pond. Here you can see how ducks used to be caught for dinner. Today, the birds are ringed here for scientific research. This historic site continues to contribute to our understanding of birds and nature.

An educational and unique afternoon in a unique piece of North Holland nature. Fun for adults and children alike.
