Are you curious to see what a duck decoy over 400 years old looks like and how catching ducks works? During the open day at Eendenkooi ‘t Zand, you will have the chance to view this special nature reserve up close.
Guides take visitors on a walk through the cage and a demonstration of duck catching every hour. The tour lasts approximately one hour. The first tour starts at 11:00 AM and the last at 3:00 PM.
The ‘t Zand duck decoy was constructed after the reclamation of the Zijpe. In the past, ducks were caught here for consumption. Nowadays, the captured birds are ringed and then released. A film about the history and use of the duck decoy can be seen in the nature information center.
You can look around the kooiker’s yard on your own. Coffee, tea, and lemonade are available. Admission is free and registration is not required.
