Our Café has been around since 1983 and is located in the center of Den Helder. It is a nice and cozy brown cafe where you can have a drink, play a game of pool or enjoy a game of darts. There are also regular live performances by various bands, see our agenda for more info. You can also follow various important football matches on a big screen. The Helderse Historische Vereniging was founded on July 1, 1988 and is concerned with the preservation, disclosure and distribution of the history of Den Helder.

When the spring sun shows itself, the ice fun starts. People of all ages eagerly gather round the display of ice-cream parlour Kaap Hoorn at Willemsoord. It is often a difficult choice between all the wonderful, artisan ice-cream flavours. But it is not just the ice-cream, also our special, rich-flavoured coffees are made with love and passion. Why not have some ice-cream to go with your coffee, instead of a cookie?

Music association Winnubst, founded in 1900, offers musical relaxation to around 100 enthusiastic singers. With a good training of their own through the Klein Harmonieorkest, Winnubst ensures that the Harmonie orchestra can continue to operate at the highest level. In addition, Winnubst has the Bigband Frankie Goes To ... and the multi-bladed chapel the Knorhanen, now a household name in Den Helder and the like.

Within the Stelling Den Helder, it was decided that an armored coastal fort had to be built on the sandbank Harssens. It wouldn't be the only armored coastal fort, but it would be a unique one in shape and execution. To man the fort, a new regiment was established. Fort Harssens is unique because of the biggest canons that have ever been put on top of a fort. In two domes, there were two canons each with a diameter of 30,5 cm (12'', 1'). Directed at navigation channel Molengat, they could propel objects up to 7 kilometers away. De domes were moved by hydraulics en could turn 360 degrees.

The Royal Navy yacht club was founded on April 29th, 1899 by officers of the Royal Navy. It is, and always has been, a club for Royal Navy personnel. The club is open to officers, officers-in-training and former officers of the Royal Navy and the Royal Navy Reserve. In november of 1901, the title ''Royal'' was added to the club by Queen Emma. In the first few years of the club, about 40% of the navy officers (around 350) were a part of the club.
