In 2025 we will commemorate a hundred years of Zuiderzeewerken with the special performance SEE, a multidisciplinary primeval opera led by Dina Popma. This production tells the moving story of Grietje Zwolsman, a young Frisian woman from 1920 who is looking for her place in a changing world. With singing in Frisian, Dutch and Wiering dialect, dance and poetry, the history of the Afsluitdijk and the reclamation of the Wieringermeer is brought to life in a special and emotional way.
SEE was created thanks to a collaboration between amateurs and professionals from Hollands Kroon and Friesland. Eight singers, dancer Rosanna ter Steege, storyteller Eda Andreae and city poet Yannaika Zomer connect heritage and art in a powerful performance that can be seen at special locations in the region.
