Lente op de Waddenzee, vogels kijken bij Balgzand

Join this special bird excursion from Landschap Noord-Holland to Balgzand, the bird paradise near Den Helder. There are few other places in North Holland where you can see so many birds together. This is where the Wadden Sea begins, the most beautiful nature reserve in our country, which extends all the way to Denmark.

In spring you can find large groups of curlews, barnacle geese and all sorts of other species passing through. A beautiful sight, those flocks of birds, flying up at the same time, possibly chased by a peregrine falcon.

Take a look at this beautiful area. A unique opportunity for experienced birdwatchers, but also for nature lovers who are curious about the spectacular Wadden nature, hidden behind the high dike.

On the bike

We cycle inside the dike from the Kuitje to the Kooyhoekschor, where most birds are at high tide. There are rental bikes available at the starting point (only for adults). The cycle ride there and back is approximately 5 kilometres. Along the way we stop regularly to watch birds that are in and along the canal or in the Balgzandpolder. At the turning point we go up the dike. Here you have a beautiful view of the vast Wadden Sea and the salt marsh of the Kooyhoekschor. It is high tide at 12:12 and many birds have gathered at this important resting place. A telescope is available.

If you have binoculars, bring them. This excursion is suitable for birdwatchers aged 12 and over.

Please reserve a spot in advance; joining on site is not possible.
