In “An American in Paris” clarinetist Maria du Toit and pianist Vera Kooper present an enchanting musical program in which the vibrant energy of George Gershwin is central. Classical and jazz come together in masterpieces such as “Rhapsody in Blue”, famous for the iconic clarinet solo. This afternoon breathes the atmosphere of America and France in the 1920s and 1930s.
In addition to Gershwin, works by French composers such as Poulenc, Debussy, Milhaud and Ravel will also be heard. An afternoon full of sparkling melodies, jazzy harmonies and surprising connections, brought by two top musicians who have mastered their instruments down to the finest detail. An entrance fee is charged for this concert.
