Will you join us on a guided tour through this amazing fort? The for many people unknown ”Fort on the Harssens”, built as an armored fort by the Dutch between 1880 and 1886, is a fort that has been and still is a part of the Stelling of Den Helder. Wat will you experience? An authentic fort (with no decoration or furniture) where it looks as if time stood still. The atmosphere of 1900 is still tangible. Who were the users of the fort? Throughout the first years it were the Dutch, during the Second World War it was the German oppressor, and after that the Royal Navy. What do you need to take into account? In some parts it can be rather dark (the tour guides have flashlights) and there are bumps on the floor. Hallways can be narrow and everything is underground. The fort is not accessible for people in a wheelchair. Children can come, but only when supervised by an adult. The fort is on Defense Ministry soil. Access will only be granted when you have made a reservation beforehand with your first and last name, and your birthdate. A maximum of 20 persons can take part per tour. How do you get there? The fort lies underneath the harbor office and the Royal Navy Yacht Club, at the Bevesierweg in Den Helder. You will get more information when making a reservation.
