Bekijk de vogels op het Wad bij Balgzand

Even in winter, life is bustling at Balgzand. During this unique excursion, you’ll cycle along the canal to the Kooyhoekschor, accompanied by a guide from Landschap Noord-Holland. Along the way, you’ll learn all about the wading birds that winter here: how they find food, why their long legs are so useful, and which species settle here at high tide.

At the turning point, climb the dike for a stunning view of the Wadden Sea. There, at the height of the tide, hundreds of birds gather in this protected resting place. Because Balgzand is normally closed to the public, this is a unique opportunity to visit this gateway to the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. Don’t forget your binoculars or use the guide’s telescope.

The bike ride is approximately 5 kilometers round trip, with regular stops. Bring your own bike or borrow one. Dress warmly and immerse yourself in the winter tranquility of the mudflats.
